The CNERP
The North-Eastern region of India, comprising eight states, is known for its unique geographical, cultural, and socio-economic characteristics. Despite its rich natural resources and strategic location, the region faces numerous challenges, including infrastructural gaps, environmental vulnerabilities, and socio-political complexities. Recognizing the need for focused research and development initiatives, the South Asian Institute for Advanced Research and Development (SAIARD) proposes the establishment of the Centre for North Eastern Research & Policy (CNERP).
Vision
To become a leading knowledge hub dedicated to fostering sustainable development, environmental conservation, and socio-economic growth in the North-Eastern region of India through research, education, policy advocacy, and community engagement.
Mission
- To conduct interdisciplinary research on the unique challenges and opportunities in the North-Eastern states.
- To facilitate capacity building and skill development programs tailored to the needs of the region.
- To serve as a platform for dialogue and collaboration among government agencies, academic institutions, industry stakeholders, and local communities.
- To promote the sustainable management of natural resources, including water, forests, and biodiversity.
- To advocate for policies and practices that support the inclusive and equitable development of the region.
Objectives
- Research and Knowledge Generation: Conduct research on key issues such as water resource management, climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, sustainable agriculture, and socio-economic development.
- Capacity Building and Education: Develop and deliver training programs, workshops, and academic courses to enhance the skills and knowledge of stakeholders in the region.
- Policy Advocacy and Support: Provide evidence-based recommendations to policymakers at the state and central levels to support the region’s development goals.
- Community Engagement and Empowerment: Work closely with local communities to understand their needs, build their capacities, and empower them to participate in development processes.
- Collaboration and Networking: Establish partnerships with national and international organizations, academic institutions, and industry stakeholders to leverage expertise and resources.
