Why RRC?

Rivers are considered as the lifeline of any civilization. It’s not only a geomorphic entity but an important ecological system on which the sustainability of modern society is dependent. In spite of the pivotal role rivers play in sustaining human civilizations, the understanding of large river systems and appreciation of their multidimensional nature is still fragmentary. The anthropogenic activities and its impact, environmental degradation, advancement of modern technologies and shortage of water due to the continuous growth and demand of fresh water poses a serious impact on the world water availability ratio. Through this centre we will try to find out the possible solutions of these various problems and to support the various initiatives taken by the NMCG to protect this valuable resource.

SAIARD has published its first book on ‘WATER:RESOURCE & SUSTAINABILITY’ under its publication wings i.e. SAIARD Publication.

Awards

Considering the wide contribution of Dr Dhrubajyoti Ghosh, the man who helped to establish the importance of East Kolkata Wetland in front of the world and recognize it as Ramsar Site, SAIARD on behalf of its River Research Centre has started an memorial awards on his name.
